The Band is a self financing group originally formed 36 years ago as Lochaber Junior Pipe band by its founder, Alex MacDonald. Since then it has undergone further name changes and is presently known as Lochaber Schools' Pipe band.

The membership of the pipe band consists of schoolchildren between 10 and 18 years of age within Lochaber District. The band can vary in size from 25 to 35 members in any year.

The primary aim of LSPB is to promote and encourage the enjoyment of traditional music making.  LSPB promotes team building, self discipline and enriches the cultural experiences of its members.

LSPB have become important ambassadors both at home and abroad. They have performed in a variety of places such as France, New Zealand and London. The band has participated in the promotion of cultural links at three International Festivals of Music and Dance organised by Highland Regional Council.

Locally, LSPB have become a recognised tourist attraction and perform regularly throughout the summer months for both tourists and locals alike. In addition the band is a popular attraction at many local events throughout the year.

Drumming
The drum corps are currently taught by Alexis Ferguson from Glasgow. Alexis is a member of the Clan Gregor Society Pipe Band.
